PRESENT, net art, 2014
Present is an idea about the possibility of transforming technological loading times, waiting for an app to open or a webpage to load, from a period of anticipation or frustration to a time of contemplation. The work asks viewers to become mindful of the present, without focus on how long they have been waiting or how long they have to go. Inspired by Action Painting and the Happenings of Alan Kaprow, Present allows the viewer to see the work being made as a participant. Each piece develops differently when the pages are loaded, making the viewer a witness to the creation of the work in real time. Ideally, the work turns the anticipation and waiting of technological loading times into an opportunity for active mindfulness by the audience.
