Who Owns Fire? is an animated poetry film that explores the evolving equilibrium of finite resources between artificial intelligence and the fundamental needs of organic life. With the rapid advance of corporate machine learning, the film is a question of our species’ forced embrace of these new technologies and their impact on the Earth’s environmental sustainability. It is a study of the contrast between extrinsic control and the illusion of choice. The film asks us to think about how the comprehensive integration of these new technologies will impact our humanity, wildlife, and the environment.
As we are positioned on the precipice of a new era, the film also wants us to reflect on how past technological advancements promised to enrich the world by making modern societies more equitable, convenient, and safe. Were these promises fulfilled? Is the new promise of artificial intelligence a forgone conclusion, or does our collective species still have a vote in what our future holds?(To view film, please contact me for the link and password.)
